Lutz initiates and monitors competition „Creative Minds“ for pupils

“Creative Minds”, a competition initiated for pupils with the objective to stimulate their interest for technical professions, started in January 2011 at the schools in Wertheim. Lutz took over the role as initiating partner.

Main target of this competition which is based on the cooperation of companies, schools and the municipality is to attach young “Creative Minds” of our region to local companies and make Wertheim an attractive industrial location. A network consisting of companies, schools and the local authorities supports the pupils to realize their ideas referring to economy and science, assisted by experts of the participating companies.

During a first phase which lasted until March 18^th, 2011, the students worked out ideas/projects and submitted their applications. In total, 43 ideas were handed in. After a pre-selection, 21 ideas worked out by 51 pupils were admitted to the competition and will be put into practice in cooperation with the companies.

Some of concepts referred to actual subjects related to environmental protection and renewable energy like a domestic biogas plant or a motor boat driven by solar energy are to be designed according to the plans. There were also many ideas concerning household tasks, e.g. a special vacuum cleaner with duster. Due to the high number of female participants, cosmetics were also an issue – among others a nail polish that can be peeled off.

Important for the evaluation and rating of the ideas is their relevance concerning up-to-date issues, their originality and their feasibility. In this connection, the respectful handling of natural resources and sustainability play a major role.

The jury includes representatives of the schools, the municipality and industry; it is presided by Professor Dr. Peter Gschwendner of the Regensburg University of applied Sciences, faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

A highlight will be the official ceremony on July 19^th, 2011 when the applicants of the two best projects will be awarded the prices in front of a broad audience. Those responsible are convinced “that this will certainly be the great finish of a successful competition!”
